Cataract Evaluation

  • Most cataracts develop in the patients after the age of 55 years and older. Sometimes, cataracts can be found in infants or young children too. Normally, cataracts develop in both eyes, but one by one, and can start in either eye. The process of cataract development is slow.
  • Cataracts occur when the natural lens turn cloudy due to changes in the proteins and lens fibers in the eye. Once the cataract develops, the lens’ ability to focus the light on the retina is decreased.
  • In this condition, the doctor will determine the cataract’s condition during Comprehensive Eye Exam then refer the patient to an ophthalmologist for further evaluation and surgery.
